2024 Eating Around the World

Thinking back on all our adventures in 2024, join me for a quick tour of my culinary journey. All the fun, none of the calories. So much great food, never enough time. I would return to every one of these wonderful places for another dining experience.

Dakar NOLA, New Orleans, LA

What an incredible experience hosted by Chef Serigne Mbaye. He brings his most cherished memories of his childhood in Senegal to every meal along with his prodigious cooking skills. Dakar NOLA highlights seafood from local waters and produce from farmers here in South Louisiana. It was a fixed menu dining extravaganza.

Since 1939, the Roundhouse has been perched atop the Roundhouse Express gondola at 7,700 feet of elevation on Bald Mountain, The Roundhouse served us a lovely fondue meal in their octagonal restaurant with forty-six windows. And what says skiing better than champagne!

Liburnia feels like a cozy garden. The food was delicious, and we sampled several small dishes in what felt like authentic dishes from Kosovo and the region.

Pizza Night

This wonderful restaurant is lit almost all by candles, and we enjoyed an amazing series of pizzas. Impossible to pick a favorite and luckily there were leftovers. Everything is cooked in a wood burning pizza oven.

Ahwahnee Dining Room, Yosemite, CA.

The Ahwahnee Dining Room is a must stop visit in Yosemite. The dining room evokes a feeling of old styled grandness and opulence. We enjoyed a buffet-style breakfast with all the choices we could want. It is really about the place, rather than the food.

1875: The Steakhouse, French Lick, Resort, French Lick, IN

Named to commemorate May 17, 1875, the date of the first Kentucky Derby, this is an elegant restaurant offering great steaks, as you might imagine. The wait staff was absolutely fabulous, meeting our every need for a special birthday dinner.

Absolutely great dinner at Catch. Super service from Darwin and excellent food. We loved the cocktails especially the smoked old fashioned. Owner Logan Marshall was very attentive and made great suggestions. All the fish is local and is brought in every day. Snapper in Parmesan sauce was a winner. The vodka rigatoni was spicy and very tasty. Dessert was a lovely apple cake and tres leches cake.

This is a lovely restaurant between the Vatican City and Castel San Angelo. We had a great filet of beef.

A classic French bistro with checked table clothes and a to die for beef bourguignon. Always busy and worth making a reservation.

Flor da Laranja, Lisbon, Portugal

This intimate Moroccan restaurant served an amazing meal, all the recommendations of Rabea, the owner/host/chef. The food was incredible, the wines recommended inexpensive and delicious, and the evening full of laughter.  Put yourself in Rabea hands and prepare for a lovely evening.

Probably our best meal in Porto. The open kitchen was bustling with head chef Sara and pastry chef Renata. We started with a bruschetta with three toppings. The pink ravioli with a purple foam made from red cabbage was amazing. The pasta with wild mushrooms, garlic and truffles was a wonderful dish as well. The deconstructed lemon perique pie for dessert was another stand out -- all the elements of the traditional pie in a unique arrangement. House made limoncello topped off the meal. Don't miss this restaurant.

Chefs de France Epcot, Disneyworld, FL.

No matter how many times we eat here, it is always like a visit to a Parisian brasserie. Must have the steak frites.

It is wonderful to have such a fabulous restaurant right in our hometown. The menu is always changing and inspired by the seasons. Devin and Kati put their hearts and souls into making sure their guests feel at home and enjoy a wonderful evening. We particularly like the fried oysters, and any seafood dish – it’s all good.
